The Open Directory

The Open Directory is a Directory which is different from a Search Engine (See the difference here). This being the case you may find some search engine results coming from the open directory, on such pages there may also be links to "submit your site" within these results, if you have already submitted to the Open Directory directly, there is no need to submit via those links as it will be taken as a duplicate submission.

To submit directly to the Open Directory: http://dmoz.org/add.html

WebCrawler

Yahoo

Yahoo is first a Directory then a Search Engine. This means, your immediate results from a search will list those matches from Yahoo's directory. Yahoo's web page matches come from the Google index. Learn more about Google above.

When trying to decide who to submit your site to, it is important to understand who-powers-who in the search engine world. The next section lists the major search engines and who they power as well as who they are powered by. Next Section >
