Gadget - Interactive Picnic Meal
The Problem:
Education. Our client, Intellihealth, knew that users were confused about nutrition labels and nutritional information in general, and were hungry for straightforward guidelines about how to be more health conscious eaters. They found that most people have a vague idea that too much fat and sugar isnt good for you, but are unsure how nutritional data adds up over the course of a whole meal, or even how the nutrition picture looks once several ingredients are combined to make a favorite dish. Surveys indicated that people want to be healthy eaters, but dont want to spend time becoming nutritional experts.
The Solution:
Interactivity. We created a series of interactive meals like the Picnic Meal below. Using Shockwave, adding highly interactive capabilities to standard Internet browsers, we assembled a typical American picnic that lets the visitor decide what and how much to eat. The user chooses an item of food, then feeds it to our ravenous ant. A table appears showing the nutritional information for the food item consumed and another table that keeps a running tally of all the food consumed by the ant at that meal. We also added delicious low-fat recipes, tips on proper cooking techniques, suggestions for healthy alternatives and other useful information. Its fun. Its easy to use. It educates.
The Results:
Fantastic. Feedback about our nutrition site was overwhelming. As we hoped, users were having a great time experimenting with our interactive meals. It made them smile and taught them a lot about nutrition in the process. The site downloads quickly and visitors tended to stay a while, which is always good news for our clients. All the information presented was clear, helpful and easy to digest. To our client, these were delicious results.
