We completely redesigned the look and feel of the Barnett International Web site by adding animation, bold colors and imagery.

Barnett International offers strategic and tactical consulting services, computer-based training and a host of conferences, seminars, on-site training, university programs and publications. All their offerings cater to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and managed care markets. In other words, if you are in the market to teach your employees more about highly specialized health-related topics, chances are Barnett can help you out.

MostlyWeb designed and built their new site. We came up with a radically new design including a Flash intro page, plus we pushed hard to reorganize the way their products and services are organized.

Quite an improvement from their old site!

The site is comprised of a few flat pages with the remainder served dynamically from an SQL database. As per the client's request, we used Cold Fusion (on Windows NT) as the scripting language.

The site is chockfull of features including extensive searching capabilities, the ability to email pages to co-workers, e-commerce, polls, surveys, email newsletters, drop down navigation menus (using layers), and a section-sensitive contact us form.

While the site includes e-commerce capabilities, it does not process credit cards online. This according to the client's restrictions. We did create the ability for Barnett to create discount structures and export orders to their internal accounting systems.
The site includes an extensive back-end application that allows Barnett personnel to add/edit/delete and sort/rank the various seminars, conferences, publications, and other offerings. These pages also allow them to upload images, PDFs and presentations.

Furthermore, the systems allows them to manage their subscribers and orders, and define locations (cities) and topics (for searching).

Featured work performed for Barnett International falls into the following categories:
	Design Designing the Barnett International site was no trivial task. We needed to represent two different business units plus create a corporate section. This meant that each unit needed to agree to a color scheme & design compatible with the others. In the end, we nailed it and came up with a great-looking unified design (and intro page) that uses bold colors and imagery compatible with newly designed print collateral.
	eCommerce Barnett International offers a slew of conferences, seminars, publications, on-site training and so forth. Plus seat availability is tracked by an internal proprietary system and Barnett offers volume discounts and allows for corporate PO's as a billing option. You can imagine that their Shopping Cart and Billing Engine were not exactly standard. No problem as far as we were concerned. We customized our standard cart and billing engine to accommodate the client's unique requirements.
	Database Barnett International requested that we start the site off using MS SQL 2000 but that we program it in such a way that the database could be changed in the future. As it turned out, Barnett wanted to bring the servers in house rather than utilize a hosting facility. By using Cold Fusion as the scripting language and designing the database schema carefully, we ensured that the database could easily be changed without significant downtime or loss of data.
	Flash Considering the time that was spent devising and building their new site, Barnett International wanted to do something special for their new home page. Rather than add a splash page, Barnett preferred an animated home page. So MostlyWeb created a Flash production that is subtle and beautiful. Browser detection scripts were installed to ensure that older browsers are diverted to an alternate Flash-less home page.
