InteliHealth

MostlyWeb created several 'meals' for IH. The purpose of these interactive meals is to educate users while increasing the time spent viewing a single page (containing ads).
We were summoned to devise a 'cool' way to show current flu levels in the country. Our "flu-o-meter" was featured in the New York Times and has received millions of hits since we created it in 1998.
InteliHealth (IH) was our first big client dating back to 1996! They offer a whoppin' 2 million pages of consumer health information on their site! The company started out as a venture between Johns Hopkins and Aetna but is currently fully owned and operated by Aetna. In 2000, Harvard Medical School became the medical-content provider.

Over the years, we've done massive amounts of work for InteliHealth. Originally, we helped convert public-access content from the NIH and migrated it to IH's proprietary Content Management System. Before long, MostlyWeb became IH's main design resource dressing up virually all their content features and redesigning their site. Largely thanks to the (site & content) design services by MostlyWeb, InteliHealth was awarded two Webby Awards ("Best Health Site on the Web").

Our work includes several site re-designs, tons of feature articles, online and print newsletters, educational tools, gadgets, interactive meals, polls, surveys, ads, kiosk applications, and so much more. On behalf of InteliHealth we provided a huge health-related site for CBS that was tied to the 1998 Winter Olympics plus we provided weekly supplemental features to CBS' "Chicago Hope" show for as long as it was on the air.

Nothing is too technical or cumbersome
InteliHealth built their own proprietary Content Management System ("IWS") before such systems existed. While extremely useful and functional, the system is not for the teach-weary as it uses it's own scripting language and involves many steps to accomplish simple tasks. The CMS supports multiple sites, mutiple distributors (custmized branding), dozens of editorial folks, review staff (legal and medical), news feeds, and so on. Plus with lots of traffic and millions of pages of content, IH's production server architecture is extremely advanced.

MostlyWeb proved itself to be very adept at working with IWS and contributed to it's features from time to time. Both making user-interface suggestions as well as contributing technically.

InteliHealth used a web-browser interface to access their proprietary CMS before any of such systems existed. The hierarchy reflects their site structure.
Content can only be signed out by one person at a time to avoid overwriting each other's changes. The system offers a complete revision-trail and roll-back features. Standard Forms allow users to add sub-topics, content, assigning topics, etc.
Content is formatted using a customized markup language to allow for custom tags. These tags can insert objects (of code) on multiple web pages without duplicating code (thus greatly simplifying code maintenance).

Work that suits your needs and goals
While things are different now, the metrics of a successful site were measured by the number of page-views, repeat traffic, and the average time users spent viewing a page. With these metrics in mind, MostlyWeb designed several gadgets, tools, and content features that were extremely successful in accomplishing these goals. Let us know what you are trying to accomplish on your site and we'll happily suggest different and effective approaches to attain those goals.

Print, web, whatever...
While most of our work is web-related (as our name implies), MostlyWeb is a full service company that also offers print services, advertising, promotion, direct mail, business development, etc. For instance, for as long as the Johns Hopkins Health Insider newsletter existed, MostlyWeb created both the print and online versions. The full-color monthly newsletter used an intricate layout with lot's of borders, bios, rules, photos, side bars, inserts, and more. Furthermore, Johns Hopkins was extremely demanding and precise regarding the way text wrapped on lines and across columns or pages, text styles, punctuation, the number of words per line, spacing, and so on. Thanks to MostlyWeb's attention to detail, layout and pre-press expertise, and by giving the client's editorial personnel direct access to the people doing the work, we produced several year's worth of JHHI newsletter, on time and to the satisfaction of Johns Hopkins as well as InteliHealth. While the newsletter disolved when Johns Hopkins and Aetna parted ways, the newsletter was a raving success both internally as well as with subscribers for as long as it was published.

Featured work performed for InteliHealth falls into the following categories:

Design
If done right, design is more than just eye candy. Whenever MostlyWeb is asked to "dress up" a feature or design a site, we don't just make it look pretty. We make sure it is beautiful but also functional, intriguing and accomplishes it's goal. This has lead to ticks with pointers, killer pumpkins, skeleton pitchers, exploding grills, and so much more.

We can create designs internally but, if you prefer, will gladly use your graphics personnel or external agencies. We have done so with several agencies such as Bjornson Design and Marcolina.

Commerce
Sometimes commerce means a few products, a cart, check-out and that's that. But for InteliHealth it is much more than that. MostlyWeb has done touch-up and pre-press work on numerous (print) catalog covers, plus has helped IH with web store designs, adding tons of products, and promoting them through ad banners, links in relevant content, email marketing, and direct mail.

Flash
Before Flash plug-ins were a given, MostlyWeb was forced to find alternative methods to make educational tools and gadgets. Flash & Shockwave certainly have added another dimension. It let's us add sound, animation, calculate totals, embed links and so on. All in (relatively) tiny productions.

Gadgets
Gadget are fun. If done right, they engage your users and add to your site. InteliHealth has comissioned MostlyWeb for a ton of gadgets over the years. Some seek to educate while others merely entertain. Some are intended to make you stay on that page while others seek to drive users deeper into other sections of the site.

CMS
InteliHealth uses a home-grown, awesome Content Management System. It supports multiple sites, co-branding, millions of pages of content, dozens of editors, legal and medical review procedures, and so on. MostlyWeb easily adapted to this system (via VPN connection) and made it more productive by creating conversion and other utilities.
